Divorce & Remarriage
"And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."
God's law regarding divorce and remarriage is understandable and reasonable. Its reasonableness is seen in the fact that when His laws are broken, adultery is the outcome. Since God created marriage between a man and a woman, He defines and governs the marriage unit with His laws. His ways are higher than our ways and are always right. There are three simple and understandable truths about divorce and remarriage.
One, whoever puts away his wife without the reason of sexual immorality and marries another commits adultery. Two, whoever marries her who is put away in that example also commits adultery. Three, whoever puts away his spouse because of sexual immorality and marries another does not commit adultery (as long as he/she marries someone who has the right to be married). By necessary implication, Jesus gave one permissible reason to put a spouse away with permission to remarry—fornication.
Jesus is not restating Deuteronomy 24:1-4 law. That law was given with limited application due to the hardness of man's heart. Jesus restored the creation model and the Genesis 2:24 law. Why is fornication (sexual immorality) the one and only exception? Because it is a sin against the body and one flesh principle. Marriage is the bonding of two into one flesh (Gen. 2:24; 1 Cor. 6:15-18).
This page is dedicated to a deeper study of the subject where caution is given to not loosen the Lord's law as well as warning not to veer to the right by overreacting with man-made rules to liberal positions. Stay on the King's Highway (cf. Num. 20:17; Deut. 5:22; 28:14)!

Two lessons about HOPE in an acrostic approach. Hope is the anchor of the soul that ascends into the immovable Presence of God (Heb. 6:18-20). What does this mean to us today as we face trials of uncertainty, fear, death, separation, etc.?
